The Ukrainian economy will most likely contract by three percent in 2014 in contrast with growth projections announced by the previous government, Finance Minister Oleksander Shlapak said Tuesday.

KIEV, March 25 (RIA Novosti) – The Ukrainian economy will most likely contract by three percent in 2014 in contrast with growth projections announced by the previous government, Finance Minister Oleksander Shlapak said Tuesday.

“I think we will have a three-percent drop [in 2014], unfortunately,” the UNIAN news agency cited Shlapak as saying.

Ukraine’s budget, adopted by former Cabinet under Mykola Azarov, envisioned the country’s 2014 GDP growth of three percent compared to ‘zero’ growth in 2013.

Shlapak also said Kiev was negotiating a loan of $15-20 billion with the International Monetary Fund.
