MOSCOW, November 28 (RIA Novosti) – Two mortar shells landed near the Russian Embassy in Damascus on Thursday, killing a Syrian security guard and injuring nine others, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

One shell landed on the embassy’s grounds; the other exploded nearby.

The building was slightly damaged in the blasts. No casualties among the embassy’s Russian employees were reported.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the shelling should be treated as an “act of terror” and that those behind the attacks “must bear the punishment that they deserve.”

At least two similar attacks on the Russian Embassy took place in September. No casualties were reported in the first blast, and at least three people were slightly injured in the second.
