BANGKOK, November 3 (RIA Novosti) – A crowded ferry reportedly carrying some 200 people, including about 40 Russians, sank in Thailand near the beach resort city of Pattaya on Sunday, killing at least six.

The double-decker ferry, which had a carrying capacity of 150 people, capsized when an engine problem sent passengers rushing to the upper level, The Associated Press reported.

A local source told RIA Novosti that the boat had encountered a large wave that caused it to topple over. The incident occurred shortly after the vessel left an island popular with day-trippers.

Two Russians died, and a third is in intensive care after suffering brain damage, media reports said.
