KIEV, October 1 (RIA Novosti) – Ukraine’s final military draft before its armed forces switch to a contract basis in line with the country’s European Union aspirations began on Tuesday.
Speaking to participants of military exercises in Ukraine’s western Lvov Region, President Viktor Yanukovych said the military reform was an “inalienable part of the [country’s] strategic course for European integration.”
“Ukrainian servicemen, just like all Ukrainian citizens, will feel the benefits of this policy,” Yanukovych said, according to comments released by the presidential press service.
Ukrainian independent news site ForUm quoted the president as saying that 60 percent of the country’s military personnel were already serving on a contract basis.
“An ordinary military conscript is not able to receive high-quality training in such a short period. We should realize that our soldiers in the armed forces are dealing with modern weapons, electronic equipment,” the president was quoted as saying.
Ukraine is set to sign a series of landmark trade agreements with the European Union, including a free-trade deal, during the Eastern Partnership summit in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in November.

- Mikhail1228EU wants to castrate Ukraine23:03, 01/10/2013Bend over now and let us remove your testicles so you will be completely impotent and dependent on the EU!
- LocoIvanNo, numbskull, try again.01:22, 02/10/2013It clearly points out in the opening paragraph that the final draft is ‘…in line with the country’s (Ukraine’s) EU aspirations….’
The last time I checked, aspirations meant ‘a hope or ambition of achieving something’. Therefore, this is a VOLUNTARY action elected by the Ukraine per EU decree.
‘EU wants to castrate Ukraine’
The idiotic title above implies incorrectly that the Ukraine is being FORCED, against their will, to do something it does not want to do.
A perfect example would be like being exposed to your boorish, as well as, inaccurate statements.
To say the least, it is a GOOD THING that the Ukraine is not dependent on YOUR COMPREHENSION skills.

Many in the West regard the Putin’s Russia with suspicion and see her as aggressive. Many elements of the new Russian idea seem to base on a pure rejection of Western liberalism. To be effective, Russia has to become more attractive – for her own people and foreigners, who share traditionalistic-conservative ideals. Russia’s new conservatism must be formulated in the form of “soft power”.
