MOSCOW, August 3 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s federal consumer-protection watchdog said Saturday that it bans dairy products by a major New Zealand company because they may contain bacteria that cause botulism.

Rospotrebnadzor said in a statement that it started recalling Fonterra’s products, including infant formula and advised Russian consumers not to buy the company’s other products.

Fonterra said earlier Saturday that tests of some ingredients showed traces of bacteria that causes botulism.

The rare disease causes severe poisoning and may be fatal.

Fonterra is the world's fourth-largest dairy company with annual revenues of about $16 billion, Associated Press said.
