MOSCOW, July 30 (RIA Novosti) – At least 35 people were injured when two trains collided in western Switzerland, media reported Tuesday.

The regional trains crashed on Monday evening in Granges-pres-Marnand in the country’s Vaud canton, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) southwest of the capital Bern, the BBC reported.

One train’s driver died in the collision. His body was recovered from the wreckage early Tuesday, the British broadcaster quoted Swiss police as saying. The other driver was injured.

Those passengers very seriously injured were taken to hospitals, whereas others received medical assistance on the site.

An investigation into the causes of the crash is underway.

According to the BBC, Switzerland's rail system is believed to be one of the world's safest.

A total of 79 people were killed earlier in July when a train got derailed in Spain.
