MOSCOW, July 14 (RIA Novosti) - A reporter who was the first to publish secret document leaked by Edward Snowden said on Saturday the fugitive US intelligence contractor controls information that could become the US government’s “worst nightmare” if revealed.

In an interview with Argentinean newspaper La Nacion, made during his visit to Rio de Janeiro, Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald said Snowden has more harmful information stored in different parts of the world.

"Snowden has enough information to cause more harm to the US government in a single minute than any other person has ever had," Greenwald was quoted as saying by Reuters.

"The U.S. government should be on its knees every day begging that nothing happen to Snowden, because if something does happen to him, all the information will be revealed and it could be its worst nightmare," he said.

Snowden, who is wanted by Washington on charges of espionage and property theft after he leaked details of secret state surveillance programs, has been holed up in a transit zone at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport since his arrival on a June 23 flight from Hong Kong.

During a meeting with a dozen prominent Russian lawyers and rights activists at the airport on Friday, Snowden announced plans to ask for temporary asylum in Russia hoping to arrange an eventual safe passage to Latin America.
