MOSCOW, June 27 (RIA Novosti) - A court in Tunisia has reviewed its sentence to three Femen activists jailed for a topless protest and ruled to release them, the organization said on its website on Wednesday.

Two French citizens and a German national were found guilty of offending public decency and threatening public order and handed four-month jail sentences on June 12. The women, identified by their names - Josephine, Pauline and Marguerite - were detained on May 29 after staging their topless protest in support of another Femen activist, Amina Sboui, who had been arrested for an anti-Islamist protest in Tunisia on May 19.

“Tunisian illegal sentencing court canceled! FEMEN activists Marguerite, Pauline and Josephine are free!” reads a brief statement, posted on the Femen website.

The lawyer for the three women, Bahri Souhaib, told Associated Press the activists were to be freed immediately and would leave Tunisia as soon as possible.

The Tunisian activist will, however, remain behind bars, Femen said.

Radical feminist movement Femen was established in Ukraine in 2008 and devoted mainly to protests on women’s issues. Later the group made headlines for topless protests around the world on various issues, including religion, national and international topics.
