MOSCOW, May 4 (RIA Novosti) - The death of Boston bombings suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was caused by “gunshot wounds of torso and extremities” and “blunt trauma to head and torso,” the death certificate for him says, according to the owner of a funeral home holding Tsarnaev’s body, US media reported.

Tamerlan, 26, and his brother Dzhokhar, 19, are accused of planting bombs at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15 that killed three people and injured over 260. Tamerlan died in a shootout with police, while Dzhokhar was wounded. The brothers, who come from a family of ethnic Chechens, lived in Dagestan, a violence-ridden republic in Russia’s North Caucasus region, and the Central Asian republic of Kyrgyzstan before moving to the United States nearly a decade ago.

The death certificate was read to CNN by phone by Peter Stefan, owner of Graham Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Friday. Stefan said the certificate has yet to be sent to Boston.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, who has been charged with using a weapon of mass destruction (a charge carrying the death penalty), is held at a prison medical facility in Massachusetts.

In the April 19 shootout with police that resulted in his brother's death, Dzhokhar received gunshot wounds to the head, neck, legs and hands. He is currently being treated for them.

Tamerlan was shot in the gunbattle, and Dzhokhar apparently ran over him while trying to flee in a car, the US cable news channel quoted authorities as saying. It was not immediately clear if the “blunt trauma” on Tamerlan’s death certificate related to those car injuries.

CNN reported earlier Friday citing a law enforcement source that the bombs the brothers are suspected of using at the Boston Marathon had been produced in the house in Cambridge, Mass., where Tamerlan Tsarnaev lived with his wife and daughter.

NBC News on Friday quoted officials as saying Dzhokhar allegedly told his interrogators soon after his detention that the original plan he and his brother had was to set off their explosives on July 4, but that the brothers finished the bombs sooner than they expected, and decided to carry out the attack earlier, on Patriot's Day, a holiday in Boston that hosts the marathon and other events.

Federal prosecutors in Boston said Wednesday US authorities have arrested three college friends of the surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect, two Kazakh men and a US citizen, on suspicion of lying to investigators and obstructing justice in connection with the deadly bombing.
