MOSCOW, November 6 (RIA Novosti) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons and said he was ready to strike the Islamic Republic’s nuclear facilities if needed, Jerusalem Post said.

"I guarantee that as if I'm re-elected as prime minister I will not allow Iran to get a nuclear bomb," the prime minister was quoted as saying in an interview with the Channel 2.

When asked if he was ready to "press the button," the frontrunner in the forthcoming January 22 elections replied: "I am capable, if I have to. I hope that I won't have to."

"If there is no other way to stop Iran, then Israel is ready to act… We are serious, this is not a show,” he added.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in late September that Iran would defend itself should Israel attack it.
