WASHINGTON, October 25 (RIA Novosti)
An automobile accident turned into an international incident Thursday morning when a driver fleeing from police scaled the fence of the Russian embassy in Washington
After crashing his car shortly after midnight in northwestern Washington, the driver fled the scene of the accident as police approached.
During the ensuing chase, the man climbed over the fence of the nearby Russian embassy on Wisconsin Avenue to elude the pursuing officers.
“The suspect in no way intended to flee specifically to the Russian embassy. He simply got mixed up and jumped over to our side by mistake,” a spokesman for the Russian embassy said.
Agents from the US Secret Service arrived on the scene, and the security officers at the Russian embassy handed the man over to American authorities after about 90 minutes of consultations, NBC News reported.
Police identified the man as 34-year-old Michael Worley. He was charged with leaving the scene of a crash, and driving while intoxicated.

For Russia, Crimea is more than just a territory. It is not for land that Russia is putting all her prestige at stake. This situation is about wounded national pride, history, identity, national phobias, a new Russian nationalism, past relations with the “West” full of real and perceived injuries, and Western hypocrisy.
