Live broadcast of the sentencing of Norwegian Anders Breivik, accused of killing 77 people, on its website at 12:00 p.m. Moscow Time (0800 GMT) on August 24.

On July 22, 2011, Breivik bombed government buildings in Oslo, which resulted in eight deaths, then opened fire at a youth camp of the ruling Labor party on Utoya Island, killing another 69 people.

In his final statement, Breivik pleaded not guilty and said he acted in the interests of native-born Norwegians to protect them from Islam and multiculturalism.

His lawyer asked for the mildest possible sentence, adding Breivik should be recognized sane. Prosecutors demanded he undergo compulsory treatment in a mental hospital.

If deemed mentally ill, Breivik may spend the rest of his life in a psychiatric ward. If the court finds him sane, the killer will serve up to 21 years in prison with possible indefinite extensions.

Breivik said he wants to be ruled sane and his attack considered a political statement rather than the act of a madman.
