Eleven people were killed when a Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crashed in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said.

Eleven people were killed when a Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crashed in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said.

The dead included seven foreign soldiers including three Americans and four Afghans, three security staff and a translator. The exact location and cause of the crash were not disclosed.

The Taliban movement, which is fighting ISAF, claimed to have shot down a NATO helicopter in Afghanistan's Uruzgan province in the south of the country. The organization's press spokesman Qari Yusuf Akhmad claimed the helicopter had been shot down with a rocket near Chinartu near the provincial administrative capital Tirin Kot, killing everyone on board.
