Armenia dismissed on Thursday reports that it violated the ceasefire in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and injured an Azeri soldier.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said earlier on Thursday an Azerbaijani conscript, 19, received a gunshot wound near the Azerbaijani-Armenian contact line in the Gedabek district on Wednesday night.

"The information provided by the Azerbaijani side is untrue,” Armenian Defense Ministry press secretary Artsrun Ovannisyan said. “Forward based units of the Armenian armed forces continue to honor the ceasefire regime.”

The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia erupted in the late 1980s, when the predominantly Armenian-populated region of Nagorno-Karabakh claimed independence from Azerbaijan.

The sovereign status of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is not recognized by any state.

It is estimated to have left more than 30,000 people dead on both sides between 1988 and 1994.
