Ukraine's parliament has on Friday refused to accept the resignation of its speaker, Vladimir Litvin, who announced he was quitting his post on Wednesday.
Not a single member of the Rada, the Ukrainian parliament, supported the inclusion of the motion on the day's agenda.
Litvin had held the post since December 2008, and was also speaker in the period 2002-2006. He announced his intention to resign on Wednesday in protest at the chamber passing a bill increasing the role of the Russian language in the country.
