Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday again urged Syria's opposition disparate groups to comply with a UN-brokered ceasefire and end all violence.

Lavrov said the opposition's goal was to "sabotage" a peace plan of UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan.

"We see a serious violation of a UN Security Council Resolution, which approved the plan and which contains calls both for the government and opposition to cease the violence," Lavrov said during talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart Gamini Lakshman Peiris in Moscow.

He said those who "incite further violence... should honestly say what they want."

Russia has twice vetoed UN resolutions over what it called a pro-rebel bias since the start of the uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in March last year, but has given its full backing to the six-point peace plan proposed by Annan.

The UN says more than 9,000 people have been killed in more than a year of violence.

Last month, the UN approved the deployment of 300 observers to monitor the truce, which has largely collapsed since it was brokered.

In Moscow on Wednesday, Lavrov also warned that the conflict in Syria may spread to Lebanon. Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Beirut on Tuesday after 13 Lebanese Shia pilgrims were kidnapped in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

"There is a real threat that the conflict will spill over into Lebanon taking into consideration the history, ethnic make-up and religions of the people of this nation...which the Lebanese government is built, things could end very badly," Lavrov said.

Clashes between supporters and opponents of Syrian President Assad in the country have left at least 12 people dead in the past 10 days, al Jazeera television reported.
