Egyptian camel handlers said they would bring thousands of camels to the Egyptian capital Cairo to block the buildings of the cabinet and the agriculture ministry if the nationwide foot-and-mouth disease quarantine is not lifted.
The protestors also threaten to block main roads in the south of the country, including those leading to popular tourist destinations and resorts.
The agriculture ministry had to ban any movement of livestock through administrative borders between the country’s provinces in a bid to contain an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.
A total of 50,000 animals have been infected with foot-and-mouth disease in at least three Egyptian provinces, and hundreds have already died
The Egyptian government will consider additional measures to contain the outbreak later this week.
