At least 15 people were killed and three more injured following an accident at a coalmine in central China’s Hunan province, Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday.
According to the agency, the accident took place on early Thursday morning in the town of Leiyang, when a tramcar carrying miners derailed and crashed in the coalmine.
The coal industry in energy-hungry China is one of the most dangerous in the world due to poor work safety standards and intensive work schedules. Hundreds of lives are lost annually in accidents at coal mines in the country.
