The two powerful bomb blasts that rocked the Syrian capital Damascus on Friday morning were directed against Russian intelligence, the Guardian reported on its website, citing Syrian television.

The Russian Embassy in Syria denied media reports that the explosions were directed against Russian intelligence. "No, I think it is utter nonsense. Russian intelligence has no buildings here and I have no idea how, even theoretically, it is possible to do this,” an embassy spokesman told Gazeta.ru.

The two explosions killed 30 people and injured 55. According to Syrian state television, the blasts were carried out by suicide car bombers.

“The TV report says the attack was aimed at Russian intelligence,” the Guardian said.

The Russian Embassy in Syria reported earlier that the blasts occurred near “security facilities”.

Answering the question if these “security facilities” could be connected with the Russian secret services, the embassy said that according to their information, “no Russian companies or representative offices are located anywhere near those areas.”
