A group of protestors rushed into Kuwait's parliament building, while hundreds rallied outside to demand the prime minister's resignation, Al-Jazeera said on Thursday.

Opposition politicians and youth activists who staged the protest are also calling to dissolve the parliament for alleged corruption.

"The demonstrators broke open the parliament's gates and entered the main chamber, where they sang the national anthem and left after a few minutes," the TV channel said on its website.

Some activists announced a sit-in outside the parliament until their demands are met.

The protesters had earlier on Wednesday marched to Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad al-Ahmad Al-Sabah's home, but police used batons to disperse them. At least five people were injured in the clash, according to an eyewitness report.

Political situation in Kuwait has been deteriorating over the past three months following an alleged corruption in parliament, where 16 members allegedly received $350 million in bribes. The prime minister was also widely criticized for failure to tackle "widespread" corruption
