Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has received the Jose Marti award, the highest state award in Cuba, during his official visit to Havana, an official statement said on Saturday.
Cuban President Raul Castro awarded Yanukovych for his "contribution to the development of friendly ties between the two countries," the statement read.
The award ceremony was held after talks on Friday between the two leaders, who referred to their bilateral relations as being "superb."
Later on Saturday, Yanukovych is expected to visit the resort of Tarara where children are receiving medical treatment from the aftermath of the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant disaster that occurred in 1986.
Yanukovych's official visit to Cuba will end on Sunday.
