After almost 18 month of having no central government, Belgium has finally formed a coalition and is ready to distribute portfolios, local media said on Thursday.

Elio Di Rupo, leader of the Socialist Party of the Walloon Region, was appointed to put together a coalition and hold talks with King Albert II.

Belgium has had no official government since the general election in June of 2010 because of disagreement between the Dutch-speaking (Flemish) and French-speaking politicians.

The coalition will include socialist, liberal and democratic parties from the French and Dutch-speaking communities.

The negotiating parties have already managed to solve major disputes related to protection of French-speaking minority in the Flemish region and a new law on financing the regions

The New Flemish Alliance led by Bart De Wever, which received a majority of votes in the Dutch-speaking community, did not participate in the coalition talks in protest against the demands of the French-speaking community.

De Wever said previously that if Di Rupo formed a coalition without the Flemish majority, he would not consider him as a prime minister of Belgium.
