One of fugitive Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's sons, Saadi, has received asylum in Niger, the country's Justice Minister Amadou Marou said.

One of fugitive Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's sons, Saadi, has received asylum in Niger, the country's Justice Minister Amadou Marou said.

Saadi, 38, the third of Gaddafi's seven sons, is expected to arrive in Niger's capital of Niamey on Monday, the minister said.

Earlier on Sunday Marou said that a patrol of the Nigerien armed forces intercepted a convoy in which one of Gaddafi's sons was found.

Many top officials of the Gaddafi regime have fled to neighboring countries as Libyan opposition forces gained control over most of the Libyan territory, including its capital Tripoli.

Niger earlier said that three top military officials of the Gaddafi regime, including Air Force ex-chief Al-Rifi Ali al-Sharif, were on its territory.

A dozen of the ousted leader's aides, including the former internal security chief, Mansour Daw, also crossed into Niger and are currently being held under house arrest in a villa in Niamey.

The whereabouts of Muammar Gaddafi himself remain unknown, but Niger has denied that Gaddafi was on its territory.

Interpol issued on Friday arrest warrants for Gaddafi, his son and heir apparent, Saif al-Islam and the intelligence chief Abdullah Senussi.
