Luxembourg is the richest European country by gross domestic product per capita, while Bulgaria is the poorest, the European Union's statistics office Eurostat said on Wednesday.
Luxembourg's GDP per capita measured in purchasing power standard (PPS) was 283 and it is followed by the Netherlands (134 PPS), Denmark, Ireland and Austria, (all 125 PPS), while Bulgaria (43 PPS) is considered the poorest country.
Luxembourg is leading in the list mainly because people from neighboring France, Germany and Belgium, who do not live in Luxembourg, may work there thus contribute to the GDP of the country without being included into the division of the wealth.
Greece (89 PPS) is struggling to regain its wealth by austerity and reforms, while central and eastern European remain at the bottom of the list.
