Pakistan has allowed the CIA to examine the compound of al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

Under the deal, forged between CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell and Pakistani Intelligence chief Lt. Gen. Shuja Pasha last week, a U.S. forensics team will search bin Laden's hideout in Abbottabad for hidden clues to the activities of al Qaeda and its late leader, the Wall Street Journal said.

U.S. officials say it will help improve ties with Pakistan, which sank to new lows after U.S. special forces killed bin Laden in an operation on May 2.

U.S. State Secretary Hillary Clinton arrived in Pakistan on a previously unannounced visit on Friday to press for more cooperation from Pakistan in tackling al Qaeda and the Taliban.

It comes a day after Washington announced it was pulling some of its troops out of Pakistan following Islamabad's request.

The Pentagon suspects that elements in the Pakistani intelligence services knew of bin Laden's hiding place.
