Ukraine has scrapped quotas for the export of cereals, the nation's Agriculture Industry Minister Nikolai Prisyazhnyuk said on Wednesday after the cabinet agreed on the measure.

The move will come into effect as soon as the instruction is signed into law by the Prime Minister.

The quotas were imposed in fall 2010 after the harvest in Ukraine and neighboring Russia was badly affected by the worst drought in decades.

In April Ukraine lifted a three million ton quota for maize export. A one million ton quota was set for wheat exports, while the quota for barley and rye was set at 200,000 tons and 1,000 tons respectively.

Prisyazhnyuk said the scrapping of grain export quotas also applied to the next harvest.

Russia still has an export ban in place.
