The top leadership of Egypt's ruling National Democratic party resigned on Saturday, the Egypt's TV reported.

The top leadership of Egypt's ruling National Democratic party resigned on Saturday, the Egypt's TV reported.

In particular, party's Secretary General Safwat El Sharif and President Hosny Mubarak's son Gamal Mubarak, who headed the party's political committee, surrendered office.

Prominent Egyptian politician Hossam Badrawi was appointed the ruling's party new secretary general.

Egypt has seen huge protests mainly in the largest cities of the North African country since January 25, with protestors demanding for President Mubarak to resign reaching into the millions.

More than 300 people have been killed and some 5,000 injured in riots throughout the country, with the largest masses seen in the country's capital of Cairo.
