The explosion occurred after New Year Mass as the worshippers were leaving the church. There are no Russian nationals among those affected, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

A spokesman for the Egyptian Health Ministry said that information about new victims of the blast may appear soon as all of those affected were delivered to different hospitals.

Three people with most severe injuries were taken to the best hospitals of Cairo as they need sophisticated surgery.
