The government of Kyrgyzstan on Monday officially handed power over to new cabinet leader Almazbek Atambayev, the country's news agencies have reported.
The new Kyrgyz parliament held its first session on Wednesday, marking the transformation of the country from a presidential to a parliamentary republic and chose its new cabinet leader.
"Today, we received a new government. Power has technically been handed over to the new cabinet of ministers," 24.kg quoted transitional President Roza Otunbayeva as saying.
She said the transitional government was able to do much regardless of the complex situation in the country.
The Kyrgyz Election Committee announced two weeks ago the final results of Kyrgyz parliamentary elections held on October 10. Five parties out of 29 running in the elections managed to make it into the 120-strong legislature.
The newly elected government in the Central Asian country has officially begun working since the overthrow of former President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who was ousted in violent uprisings in April. The country approved a constitutional reform in June, which significantly increased the powers of parliament.
The Kyrgyz parliament on Friday confirmed the members of the government with Atambayev as its official leader.
Atambayev has previously served as the country's prime minister and was the first vice-premier during the transitional period.
Otunbayeva, who was approved as the country's president for a transitional period until 2012 in June's referendum, is expected to address the parliament.
In line with the new Kyrgyz constitution, the parliament elects a prime minister by a majority vote. The premier will govern the nation, while the president will act as more of a figurehead.
International observers said the October elections were the cleanest and most democratic in the history of the country.
