Britain's Prince William has become engaged to his long-standing girlfriend Kate Middleton and the couple is expected to marry in 2011, Clarence House announced on Tuesday.
Prince William and Middleton got engaged during holidays in Kenya in October, a statement said.
Details of the marriage will be announced later.
Prince William and Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, known as Kate, met in 2001 when they were both students the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
Their relationship, which began in 2002, soon received widespread media attention, and there has been constant speculation that they will eventually marry. Middleton has attended many high-profile royal events, making it into numerous "best dressed" lists.
Recently, the couple has spent most of their time in northern Wales, where Prince William is serving in the Royal Air Force.
