Israel does not oppose holding direct talks with the Palestinian National Authority, Israeli Prime Minister Binjamin Netanyahu said on Monday during his visit to Athens.

"We are ready to go to Cairo, to Washington or anywhere else to advance the process," the Israeli prime minister said following talks with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou.

Israel is making its own steps to ensure that such talks are possible, Netanyahu said, without elaborating.

During talks the Greek premier said Athens was pleased with Israeli's decision to release Greek-owned ships from the Freedom Flotilla, which was stormed by Israeli militants while taking aid to the Gaza strip. Following the attack, Greece condemned Israel's actions, but, unlike in neighboring Turkey, did not lower relations with the Jewish state.

The Israeli prime minister is on his first ever official visit to the Greek capital.
