London's Westminster Magistrates' Court postponed a hearing into Russia's extradition request for fugitive businessman Yevgeny Chichvarkin until September 13.

London's Westminster Magistrates' Court postponed a hearing into Russia's extradition request for fugitive businessman Yevgeny Chichvarkin until September 13.

The hearing was due on Monday.

A Court spokesperson told RIA Novosti the decision had been made on July 21, but declined to comment further.

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office issued a request for the extradition of the former CEO of cell phone retailer Euroset in June 2009, six months after he fled Russia.

Russia accuses Chichvarkin of being involved in the kidnapping of an employee and of blackmail.

Experts say the case may strain ties between Moscow and London further. Around a dozen Russian fugitives, including billionaire Boris Berezovsky and Chechen separatist leader Akhmed Zakayev, have been holed up in Britain since the early 2000s.

Moscow has failed to have any of them extradited so far as Britain says they are unlikely to get a fair trial at home. Most of them are critics of the Russian government, with some - like Berezovsky - being former Kremlin insiders.
