The scandal around the arrest and deportation of Russians spying in the United States will not affect Russian-U.S. relations, the U.S. ambassador to Russia said on Monday.

The scandal around the arrest and deportation of Russians spying in the United States will not affect Russian-U.S. relations, the U.S. ambassador to Russia said on Monday.

"This incident will have no negative impact on the improvement in our bilateral relations we all are witnessing," John Beyrle said.

The scandal broke out in late June when 10 people were arrested in the United States, and several days later an 11th spy was detained in Cyprus. The spies were freed in a swap deal between Russia and the United States.

U.S. authorities said the case was "the result of a multi-year investigation conducted by the FBI, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, the Counterespionage Section and the Office of Intelligence within the Justice Department's National Security Division."

The reset of Russian-U.S. relations was threatened following the espionage scandal. However, the both countries pledged the espionage row would not affect bilateral ties.
