Front-runner in Ukraine's presidential election Viktor Yanukovych will not attend a TV debate with his opponent Yulia Tymoshenko, his spokesperson said Monday.
Anna German, a member of parliament from the Party of Regions led by Yanukovych, said he had "other plans" for Monday evening.
Yanukovych won the first round of Ukraine's presidential vote on January 17 and will face off against runner-up Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in the second round on February 7. The gap between the two contenders is just above 10%.
Yanukovych has invariably refused to participate in public debates with Tymoshenko.
The country's incumbent president, Viktor Yushchenko, received just 5% of the vote in the first round.
