SINGAPORE, November 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev during his official visit to Singapore, which followed the APEC summit, toured a Russian missile cruiser anchored in the southeast Asian nation.
The crew of the missile cruiser Varyag lined up to meet the president. He was also welcomed by the commander of a Russian Pacific flotilla and the cruiser's captain. A military band played the Russian anthem.
Medvedev toured the ship before talking with the crew in the companion cabin.
Medvedev's visit to Singapore, the first by a Russian leader, follows the annual meeting of the 21-nation Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum on Saturday, which pledged to curb protectionism and ensure an economic recovery and sustainable growth.
Medvedev also held bilateral meetings with U.S. President Barack Obama, Chinese leader Hu Jintao, Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet, and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama on the sidelines of the forum.
