BEIJING, September 23 (RIA Novosti) - Almost 5,000 soldiers will march through Tiananmen Square at a military parade to mark 60 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, a Chinese military official said on Wednesday.
Lt. Gen. Fang Fenghui, general director of the October 1 parade, said 14 navy, air and missile regiments will march in 14 columns, 352 soldiers each, followed by a display of up to 52 types of new weapon systems.
He said on Thursday the systems would include airborne early warning and control aircraft, sophisticated radar, unmanned aerial vehicles and satellite communication devices of the People's Liberation Army.
According to media reports, the streets leading up to Tiananmen Square are lined with military vehicles every day, participating in rehearsals for what has been touted as China's biggest military parade in a decade.
