TBILISI, September 8 (RIA Novosti) - A powerful earthquake measuring 8 on the Richter scale struck Georgia's Ambrolaursky District to the northwest of the capital, Tbilisi, a local meteorology center official said on Tuesday.
The official said the magnitude of the shock in Tbilisi was 4. No casualties were reported.
Earlier Reuters reported that the quake measured 6.2.
The Emergencies Ministry of the former Georgian republic of South Ossetia also reported an earthquake, saying the capital Tskhinvali had been blacked out as a result.
