WASHINGTON, June 16 (RIA Novosti) - South Korean President Lee Myung-bak will pay an official visit to Washington on Tuesday to discuss the situation in North Korea with President Barack Obama, a White House spokesman said.
The presidents will discuss North Korea's nuclear activities, missile tests, and potential threat to the region, as well as South Korean-U.S. relations.
"The primary topic will be that of North Korea,'" Robert Gibbs told reporters.
The UN Security Council on Friday toughened existing sanctions against North Korea and imposed new sanctions following Pyongyang's May 25 nuclear test.
"The real threat of North Korea, the most forward-leaning threat from North Korea would be any effort to move weapons or weapons of mass destruction from - or material for weapons - from North Korea somewhere else," Gibbs said.
All 15 UN Security Council members on Friday voted in favor of Resolution 1874, which expands an arms embargo and allows searches of North Korean ships on high seas, but does not authorize the use of force.
North Korea said on Saturday it would respond with war to any attempts by the United States and its allies to isolate the country, and that it would start enriching uranium and using plutonium for military purposes.
