"I would like to reject all accusations made by the president concerning national treason. I absolutely reject claims regarding some kind of constitutional conspiracy or unconstitutional laws, which were adopted on September 2," she told journalists during a press conference.
Relations between President Viktor Yushchenko and Tymoshenko have become increasingly strained recently after the prime minister failed to condemn Russia's actions in the South Ossetian conflict, and back the president in his support for Georgia.
Yushchenko's Our Ukraine Party pulled out of the pro-Western ruling coalition on Thursday after just nine months in power. The move, which could lead to snap elections if the dispute is not resolved, followed a vote by opposition parties backed by the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc to reduce the president's power,
The premier, who was accused by the president of "treason and political corruption," was widely expected to run against Yushchenko at the next presidential election, but last week she said in a televised address to the nation that she was prepared to back out of the presidential elections "to support a single [democratic] candidate" in order to save Ukraine from further political turmoil.
Tymoshenko also said Monday that following the treason claims she was subject to round-the-clock surveillance, the UNIAN agency said. It also reported that Tymoshenko has received a subpoena to appear in the Prosecutor General's office on September 11.
