KIEV, April 17 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine is expected to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) on May 16, 30 days after completing all accession procedures, the country's foreign ministry announced on Thursday.
The 30-day countdown began on Wednesday, after the WTO received formal notification of Ukraine's ratification of the accession protocol.
The document was signed by President Viktor Yushchenko and WTO chief Pascal Lamy on February 5. It was ratified by the country's parliament, the Supreme Rada, on April 10, and approved by the president six days after.
Ukraine has been seeking WTO membership since 1993.
