CAIRO, April 25 (RIA Novosti) - Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is alive and continues to plan military attacks on "infidels," a Taliban warlord said Wednesday.

Mullah Dadullah Akhund, a radical Muslim cleric and a ruthless leader of the Taliban military wing, said in an interview with the Al-Jazeera television channel that bin Laden personally planned the attack on U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney during his visit to the main U.S. military base in Afghanistan in February.

A suicide bomber attacked the entrance to the U.S. Bagram airbase, 60 kilometers (about 40 miles) north of the Afghan capital, Kabul, on February 27, killing 23 people and wounding 20. The Taliban claimed responsibility and said Cheney, who was unharmed, was the target.

"Taliban soldiers managed to infiltrate the 'impenetrable' [Bagram] base thanks to bin Laden's instructions," the Taliban official said.

Mullah Dadullah said the Al-Qaeda leader is planning new operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
