BISHKEK, October 10 (RIA Novosti, Yulia Orlova) - The president of Kyrgyzstan said Monday he shared Uzbekistan's concern over the growth of religious extremism in the region.
After a recent meeting with his Uzbek counterpart, Kurmanbek Bakiyev said, "Joint efforts to fight international terrorism and religious extremism, which pose a threat to the region's security and stability, should be stepped up."
During the meeting, the sides also agreed to take additional measures to stabilize the situation on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border and expand economic cooperation.
