DAMASCUS, September 7 (RIA Novosti, Nadim Suaui) - The Palestinian security forces have been put on the alert after military adviser to the Palestinian National Authority General Moussa Arafat was killed Wednesday morning, the Palestinian Interior Ministry announced.
"The Interior and National Security Minister, Nasser Yusef, raised the level of vigilance in the security forces and ordered that a commission be set up for the inquiry," the ministry said in a press release.
"The culprits will not escape punishment under any circumstances," Yusef said.
Arafat, the former military intelligence chief, was killed early on Wednesday in his house in Gaza.
About 100 militants arrived in 20 vehicles, surrounded Arafat's house and exchanged fire with his security guards for about 30 minutes. Then they broke into the house and shot him dead, and then kidnapped the general's 29-year-old son.
The Palestinian group Popular Resistance Committees has claimed responsibility for the attack.
