Amateur video has emerged purportedly showing of Muammar Gaddafi being caught by fighters of the new Libyan government in Sirte on Thursday.
It's the earliest footage of Gaddafi's apparent capture to have emerged so far.
AP Television cannot independently verify the authenticity of the footage.
The shock discovery of the former dictator, found cowering in a water drain, was captured by Ali Algadi, a rebel fighter with an iPhone, just seconds after Gaddafi was dragged from the drain in which he was hiding.
Although clearly injured, Gaddafi is still alive during the capture.
His captors can be heard shouting, "Don't kill him! Don't kill him! We need him alive!" throughout the footage.
Within an hour he was dead, but not before jubilant Libyans had vented decades of hatred by pulling the eccentric dictator's hair and parading his bloodied body on the hood of a truck.
The death Thursday of Gaddafi, two months after he was driven from power and into hiding, decisively buries the nearly 42-year regime that had turned the oil-rich country into an international pariah and his own personal fiefdom.
But there was also concern about the confusion over how Gaddafi died after Libyan revolutionaries had pledged to bring him to court to face atrocity charges.
