Apple Incorporated announced the release of a new iPhone on Tuesday at its first major product event in years without Steve Jobs presiding.
According to Apple, The iPhone 4S will run faster and has new mobile software that can sync content wirelessly, without having to plug an iPhone to a Mac or Windows machine.
Also, the new iPhone 4S has an improved camera with a higher-resolution sensor.
The processor is faster, which helps run smoother, more realistic action games.
It's also a "world phone" which means that Verizon iPhones will be able to useable overseas, just as AT T iPhones already are. There had been speculation that Apple would reveal a more radical revision of the phone, an "iPhone 5." The no-show leaves room for speculation that Apple will reveal a new model in less than a year, perhaps one equipped to take advantage of Verizon's and AT T's new high-speed data networks.
Apple's stock fell 11.76 US dollars, or 3.1 percent, to 362.84 dollars in afternoon trading on Tuesday.
Apple is including a "personal assistant" application called Siri in the iPhone 4S.
It responds to spoken questions and commands such as "Do I need an umbrella today?"
It's an advanced version of speech-recognition applications found on other phones.
Outside Apple stores in suburban Washington and in Miami, Florida, customers were already excited about the idea of a new phone with additional features.
"The thing that has my interest piqued the most is the new voice recognition improvements allowing you to send text and email by speaking various commands," said Miami resident Christopher Todd outside his home city's Apple store.
