The Pechora district court in Kiev refused to revoke arrest as a preventive measure against the former prime minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko.
The application by the former prime minister’s lawyers was dismissed during a court session held on the morning of August 8.
Public order in Kiev is maintained by an unparalleled number of special operations agents – about one thousand. The supporters of the former prime minister and the leader of the opposition party Batkivshchina staged a mass rally in downtown Kiev demanding her release from custody.
Vladimir Polishchuk, head of the press service of the main directorate of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry, said that about 1,600 supporters of Tymoshenko and about 400 opponents gathered outside the courthouse.
