Thousands of football fans and right-wing protesters gathered for an unauthorized rally on Saturday, December 11, at Manezh Square in Moscow. Protesters clashed with riot police.
The scuffle began after police tried to protect five people from the Caucasus region who were under attack from unidentified assailants.
Some in the crowd began throwing bottles and flares at the police. Then they tried to block Mokhovaya Street. The police stopped the attempt and pushed the troublemakers away from the road.
Moscow police chief Vladimir Kolokoltsev arrived at Manezh Square and began negotiating with protesters. He promised the criminal case opened against the killers of Spartak football fan, Yegor Sviridov, would be brought to a conclusion. The crowd began to break up.
Several dozen people were hurt, and over 60 arrested, according to police.
