Havana’s residents have demonstrated their virtuosic driving skills riding the Russian cars. The Cubans discuss the latest car industry’s news and compete with each other in driving at monthly meetings of the Russian Car Lovers Club, which was opened a year ago.
The AvtoVAZ cars are in great demand at Cuba due to their simplicity, repair capability and relatively cheap spare parts. The Lada has become something more than just a transport for Cubans. Many of those cars have been exploited for more than forty years and are still on the run. The Cubans use the Lada cars as taxis in their everyday life.
Russian diplomats, including the Russian ambassador to Cuba Mikhail Kamynin (who came here for the first time), came to see the Cubans driving the Soviet cars.
