The rare black Amur leopard cub was born in the famous Serengeti Safari Park, in Hodenhagen, Germany.
The cub, who was named Paulchen, was the only baby of black color. He was much smaller than his brothers, who did not let him eat his mother’s milk.
The baby was taken away from his mother and was fed artificially. Now the cub is almost three months old. He has put on weight and has 60 cm in height. Every day at 3 p.m. the zoo keepers show the visitors of the Serengeti Park and the journalists the process of feeding Paulchen.
The Amur leopard is becoming extinct. Specialists say there are no more than 40 species in the wild and just over 200 species in the zoos. These predators live in Siberia, near the Amur River, in China and North Korea. Big male species may weigh over 150 kilograms.
Black Amur leopards are on the brink of extinction. There are no more than five species left in the world. Hunters like the black leopard for its thick and beautiful fur.
