The Moscow International Motor Show, one of the largest of its kind in the world, kicked off on August 25. This year’s event, which will come to an end on September 5, will introduce eight global, seven European and 62 Russian models to the world.
On the first day of the show, the Russian car manufacturer AvtoVAZ unveiled its widely anticipated Renault-based Lada R90, which can seat up to seven people. The car will be released in the spring of 2012.
In addition, the Samara-based auto giant unveiled the SE sedan Lada Priora, featuring the GLONASS/GPS satellite navigation system, a new front bumper (updated to meet European safety rules), additional blinkers on the side mirrors, an electronic accelerator pedal and the ISOFIX system for installing child restraints. The manufacturer will include the GLONASS/GPS satellite navigation system in the Lada Kalina as well.
The Moscow International Motor Show also features the Ford Mondeo and the Renault Latitude business-class sedan among its new models. Mercedes-Benz presented its new CL coupe, while Porsche unveiled its Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
The 2008 Moscow International Motor Show outnumbered the famous Detroit and Geneva auto shows, drawing approximately 1.6 million visitors. Some 700,000 people visited the 2010 Detroit Auto Show last winter as well as the Geneva Motor Show, held last spring.
